The Best Time Strategies for Me

Image
I'm gonna start off by saying that I am horrible at time management. I always start the semester off strong and then somewhere along the way I start losing track of time which leads me to get behind on stuff. I usually end up putting in more effort for one or two classes that I don't put enough effort into the others. In the article, " Four Question to Help You Overcome Procrastination ", the author Peter Banerjea gives four tips on how to beat procrastination. The first tip I really liked was "what one thing can I do to get started? And that really resonated with me because I always hold myself from starting something because I'm either too lazy or just think I won't be able to finish it or go through with it. In the article, " The Psychology of Checklists ", I read about some cool tips I could use to make checklists more efficient. The first being to set smart, bite-sized goals. Everyone has their big goals but I think small goals are imp

Class Tools

Since I already took Indian Epics before, I'm pretty familiar with all of the class tools and technology. The tools you really get familiar with are blogging and website publishing. Blogging is where you do all of your daily blog posts and then the website is where you will publish your official stories for the project. I loved being able to use the different features on both sites to make my whole layout look more cool, and more aesthetic. Google Sites test page. It helps keep you on track of what day it is and also has some cool videos or new stories posted by people that you can see and can use for extra credit commenting.

Class Assignments

Since I already took Indian Epics last fall semester, I already know what the assignments will be like and what to expect out of them. Last semester I wasn't on top of my game for this class so I definitely was behind for a while and had to do a lot of the extra credit assignments to catch up. That is one thing I love about this class. There are so many options for extra credit that you can make up points if you don't get to do an assignment on time or just forget to do it. My favorite extra credit was the Wikipedia trails. Those were so fun to do because you go from one page to another and then one and one till you get four different articles. And then it's cool to see from what you initially started to what you ended up at. A few others I liked were extra reading because you get to read more stories by other people and then growth mindset and famous last words. Source:  LearnUpon.com

Growth Mindset

In the video, " Why Sprout is my Favorite Professor at Hogwarts ", John Spencer talks about how he felt different in 7th grade because of these shorts he wore. They were different than what other boys would wear, but he still wore them because his grandma made them for him and he loved her enough to wear them. One day he came to the realization that he was a nerd when his school had a spirit day that was to dress up like a nerd. When he watched Harry Potter and saw the character of Neville, he saw how much Neville reminded him of himself and he cringed. He explains how Professor Sprout came to be his favorite professor at Hogwarts because of her belief in Neville till the very end. She didn't see him as a nerd or any different that the other students. She just knew he was a good person overall. What I learned from this video is that it is okay to be different. It is okay to be "weird" because there are people out there that are going to like you regardless. I

Introduction to a Future Psychologist.

Hello Everyone! My name is Shivani Patel. This is my second time taking a class with Laura Gibbs. I took the Indian Epics class last fall and I loved it so I am excited to take this Myth and Folklore class this semester. I am from Clinton, OK but I'm happy to say that my family left the small town life behind and moved to Oklahoma City this summer. So I guess I can officially say I'm from OKC now. I was born in India but moved here with my family to the United State when I was about five years old. I am a 5th year senior Psychology major with a minor in Sociology. I'm graduating this December! (Whoop whoop!) If you had read my introduction post from last fall, it would say pre-PA as well, but sometimes you hit a bump in the road and your plan changes just like mine did. Now, I'm going for Psychology and currently in the process of applying to grad schools. My goal is to be a Clinical Psychologist so I know that's going to take a lot of work. Being a Psycho

Storybook Favorites

The Mystical Horses of Hogwarts This storybook was the first one that popped up when I opened the assignment page and I knew I had to read it because it has the word Hogwarts in it, and I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan. The introduction was really good and gave a nice overview of what kind of creatures we will be reading about in the storybook. Of course the author included characters from Harry Potter, but there were also other characters that I have heard about from other stories. For example, in their first story, there is a mention of Chiron, which is a centaur that I learned about in high school humanities and also was a character in the Percy Jackson series. I think the author did a good job at giving the mythology background of the creatures but also did a really good job at incorporating them into the Harry Potter world. They picked a good title that is honestly very straightforward about what to expect out of this storybook. The author kept the design and layout of all of their

My Favorite Place

Ever since I was 12, I knew I wanted to travel the world. Unfortunately, I haven't had many opportunities as of yet to travel to other countries. I've been to airports in other countries but I don't think that really counts, you know? The only country I have actually visited a few times is India. We go visit our family there every few years. The last time I went to India, we travelled to another state, Rajasthan, and there I fell in love with the cities of Jaipur and Udaipur.  I am a big fan of palaces and the whole history behind them, and Jaipur and Udaipur are FULL of palaces. I got to visit quite a few palaces and take tours, and it was a magical experience. Hawa Mahal. Jaipur, Rajasthan. Look from inside the palace facing the city,  Udaipur City Palace. I took this picture after we finished our tour. I would love to go back and be able to explore this palace again.
